Bob was born and raised in Vancouver. He was called to the bar of B.C. in 1984 and for much of his career he was a trial lawyer specializing in commercial and administrative litigation with an emphasis on environmental matters. He also has extensive experience in real estate and leasing litigation.

Bob also acted in employment and human rights tribunal matters and as counsel in the criminal courts for those charged with regulatory and commercial crime offences.

In recent years Bob has changed his focus from acting as counsel to acting as an arbitrator.  He has conducted numerous arbitrations in a wide variety of commercial law disputes.  Bob is a roster panelist with the Vancouver International Arbitration Centre and a member of the ADR Institute of B.C.

Bob was, until December 31, 2022, the Vice Chair of the Environmental Appeal Board, Vice Chair of the Forest Appeals Commission, and a member of the Oil and Gas Appeal Tribunal of British Columbia. In this capacity he heard, chaired and decided numerous appeals concerning environmental, forestry, wildlife, wildfire and First Nations issues.  Bob was first appointed to these tribunals in November 2003.

Bob is a member of the Sports Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada, having been appointed to that tribunal in February of 2021.  In this capacity he hears appeals arising in the field of amateur sports.

He has appeared as counsel in all levels of court in British Columbia and before various administrative tribunals.

Bob completed his second term as managing partner of MacKenzie Fujisawa in March 2020.  His first term as managing partner was from 2006 through May of 2011.

Bob was appointed as Q.C. (now K.C.) in 2013.
