Brian Poston is our past Managing Partner at MacKenzie Fujisawa (May 2011 to May 2016) and leads our Aviation and Aerospace Practice Group.
Brian was raised in the Northwest Territories and was awarded a full scholarship to Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific in 1988. He then went on to study in Nice, France for one year before returning to Canada to complete a bilingual BSocSc degree (cum laude) in Political Science and a BA in History at the University of Ottawa (1994). He received his LLB from the University of Alberta in 1998 and was admitted to the Law Society of British Columbia in 1999. Throughout his post-secondary education Brian was a reserve officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain.
Brian has focused his practice on aviation, aerospace and product liability since 2002. He is routinely retained by underwriters to act on behalf of airlines, general aviation operators, aircraft manufacturers, airports, pilots, overhaul and repair facilities, and product manufacturers in Canada and the US. In addition to aviation and aerospace law, Brian is active in copyright infringement with a focus on computer software code, commercial litigation and personal injury. He has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia and has been trial counsel in a number of lengthy trials and arbitrations.
Brian is the current Past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association Air and Space Law Section, is actively involved with the American Bar Association and King County Bar Association, and is proud to be regularly recognized by L’Expert magazine as a leading aviation lawyer in Canada. Brian was also on the organizing committee and panel moderator for the inaugural Trans-Pacific Aviation Law and Policy Conference in Vancouver in 2015.
Outside of the practice of law, Brian’s focus is his family. He gladly gives back to the community by serving on a number of elementary school committees.
